love this. after i got divorced i got my own place and love it for the same reasons you said - it’s mine and mine alone! at one point my boyfriend and i considered moving in together to his place but i eventually decided nope i wanted to keep my apartment indefinitely, and even spent more time brightening it up to make it more MINE. congrats!
I’m so happy for you that you have a space that’s yours! It’s not a small thing. (Well mine’s pretty small) It’s a delicious pleasure for a woman to have a place to rest or create or ponder that’s hers and only hers.
This is amazing, Kristen. I've been thinking of doing something similar after my upcoming move, and this has been a huge inspiration to me. I can't imagine how great it must feel to finally have your home.
It's funny because I mentioned the possibility of building out a van to start to my mom. I may be coming home after 9 years abroad and I'm feeling ready to build roots, but I'm not quite sure where yet. My mom mentioned maybe my dad would be happy to help me, so reading how you and your dad worked together feels like a little nudge in that direction.
Wowwww so cool! I love that idea too! I feel like there are a lot of women feeling that nudge to build a place just for them. You will have it forever and always somewhere to land no matter what. That’s what I needed to be free to fly.
Girl - this is so sweet and I'm obsessed with the solitude and silence you're describing, both mentally and physically. I live in a house with an overbearing husband and two loud teens and I'm not able to fully ever be truly quiet in my mind to write the book I want to write. I totally get the craving to have a room of ones own! (also...where does the handsome Josh fit into all of this??? 😊
I realize that my position and this freedom to write and create freely is a luxury many women don’t have so my goal is to make the most of it. For all of us. You deserve that, too. Josh gets regular invites haha! I found a partner who respects my need for consistent bouts of solitude and that is a gift.
oh this is a dream I can get behind!!
I took hermit mode to level 🔟 haha

You should absolutely go for it. It’s been worth every challenge and tearful night when I thought I’d never finish it!
I bet!!!

Yesss! Sometimes we need the solid roots so we can feel safer to fly. I'm feeling this for sure.
I think you're right about a lot of women feeling that nudge—I'm here for it!
You are amazing, girl. 🙌🏻🩷
Thank you for reading, Kate!
